BIOLOGY INSTRUCTOR | Fresno City College | Fresno, CA

Essential Functions of Position
Include teaching classes in majors, non-majors, and human biology; teaching extended day and evening classes as assigned; serving on college and district committees; course development, program review, and developing and assessing student learning outcomes; otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Include a Master’s degree in any biological science, or a Bachelor’s degree in any biological science and a Master’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or a valid California Community College Credential, or the equivalent education and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications
Include the extent of background in general biology, botany, zoology, anatomy, and physiology; extent and type of experience teaching biology (majors, non-majors, and human biology), botany and zoology; extent and experience in diagnosing and remediating knowledge and skills deficiencies; extent of experience with educational technology (computer, interactive video, slides, etc.); extent of working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; extent of related work and professional experience and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.

Conditions of Employment
177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits
Starting salary is $51,992 - $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance as well as disability coverage for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. Additionally applicants will be evaluated on how application packet addresses experience in essential functions of position.

From the applicants who meet the qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications to invite to interview. Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and the situation prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be recommended to the President. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President or Vice Chancellor and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
